Current areas of focus
How do we optimize collaboration between humans and algorithms in critical decision contexts? My research examines factors that influence when people accurately detect algorithmic errors and limitations, with implications for improving human-in-the-loop decision systems in healthcare, hiring, content moderation, and financial services.
When faced with technological biases, users develop creative workarounds that impact adoption patterns and system effectiveness. My work documents these workarounds and their implications for building more resilient socio-technical systems that better serve diverse user needs.
How do people evaluate potential risks from algorithmic systems? Drawing on established frameworks from risk communication, my research examines the psychological factors shaping trust judgments about algorithms, with implications for designing systems that foster appropriate levels of user trust.
